Nicole "Nikki" Evans Jones, EdD

Mother, Start-Up/Small Business Owner, Retired Educator

Candidate for Post Three At-Large (Citywide) Seat on the Atlanta City Council

Education Leader – Community Builder – Lifelong Atlantan

Dr. Nicole (Nikki) Evans Jones spent 30 years working to better Atlanta Public Schools. First as

a counselor and then as a principal. Nikki led turnaround efforts at four Atlanta Public Schools.

An achievement she credits to lifting up families and neighborhoods, to being just as focused on what goes on outside schools as inside them. She invested her time in families and neighborhoods as a way to boost student outcomes. And will bring that same spirit of access and inclusion to City Council.

Nikki is now a small business owner and entrepreneur. She is a third generation resident, having

grown up in Southwest Atlanta. She is a product of our public school system and graduated from

Benjamin E. Mays High School. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Howard University in political science and subsequently an M.A. and Ed.D from Clark Atlanta University. She has three grown children and lives in West Midtown. Nikki is a member of Cascade United Methodist Church.

She is running to “Put Neighborhoods First” in our city.  Something you can trust she’ll deliver. After all, she’s done it her whole career!

Collaborative Safety

As a former principal and school counselor, Nicole understands that securing the future of

Atlanta is about more than just a good education. It’s about stabilizing and serving entire

families where they live. And that starts with public safety and a commitment to community.

Nicole will:

  • Prioritize recruitment and retention of our public safety officers by making sure that pay, training, and even housing supports are the strongest in the region.

  • Grow the budget for pre-arrest diversion, 311, and other resources that help provideimpactful alternatives to incarceration for nonviolent criminals. It’s the moral thing to do and frees up time for our police officers to tackle violent crime.

  • Ensure that our first responders have access to the best resources and training. This includes de-escalation and other tactics crucial to treating every resident with respectand dignity.
